CO2 Time :: Mobile App

The first aim of this project is addressing the carbon reduction challenge by increasing user’s awareness. In fact, according to Mike Berners-Lee, "our carbon instict needs to be just like the one we have for managing moneys". But in turns, most of the people "simply respond passively to the price of energy compared to the value of their own time”.  So it is clearly how money and time have both become our language to understand the value of (almost) everything. Therefore important CO2 emission reductions are possible only if we understand their value and the associated costs if we don’t take the action.

The goal: according to the latest uk government’s targets for emissions, it is needed to cut them of the 80% by 2050, so we should remain within 2 Tons of CO2 per year. It means that your CO2 year has only: 52 Days! But how much is our CO2 Time? Taking international air travel and the energy “embedded” in imported goods into account, people in the uk are each responsible for about 14 tonnes of greenhouse gases a year, that means that an hamburger is accounted for  2 CO2 hours of our CO2 year.
