This was one of those cases where I had a clear image in my mind of what I wanted, it only needed to be translated into reality. I wanted to create something both delectable and horrifying, attractive and repulsive.
The finished piece, a delectable confectionery cocktail of horror. I struggled a bit when it came to choosing colours that didn't end up making the whole image look too busy - this was solved by whittling down my rainbow palette to just pinks and greens.
At one point I felt like some typography was in order, so I ended up drawing on pulp comic influences. I think the type and illustration together could go nicely on a t-shirt or a wheat sticker on a train somewhere.
I love just drawing thousands of tiny marks and lines for hours until they eventually join forces to create something comprehensible, so this was probably my favourite part.
This was the initial sketch that I scanned into Illustrator.
