Even art that aims at truth-seeking in the highest degree can be said to be abstract, at least theoretically, because a complete representation of reality is impossible. Artwork that takes liberties, for example changing color and form in ways that are visible, can be said to be somewhat close to this style.Complete abstraction has no trace of any reference to any discernible subject. For example, in geometric representation, it is unlikely to find references to naturalistic beings.Figurative art and full abstraction are almost mutually exclusive. But figurative and representational (or realist) art often contains partial abstraction.
