Photography Final Portfolio
I am a Digital and Media Arts Program Student at National Park College. I have had the honors of taking this photography course this semester, and I am very happy with the work I have made over
the course of the past four months.
Photography is something I have been passionate about since I could get my hands on a camera. I realized over these past few months that portrait photography is one of my favorites. My teacher has helped me become the photographer I am today. Most of my photos are taken with a phone, my Samsung Galaxy S21 5G, and I wanted to do that to challenge myself for this time period to prove that starting photographers don't need a
fancy camera to create amazing work.
The following images are my personal top 10 favorites that I've taken in this semester, they are in order of when they were taken, and each has a description of the work.
"Skincare Is My Therapy" /  January 2024 / Samsung S21 5G
This is from my "Day in the Life" series. I love this picture because it shows how
I spend a lot of my free time at my desk that I love so much.
"Picture Perfect" / January 2024 / Samsung S21 5G
This was a picture in my "iPhoneography" series where I was challenged to make an interesting perspective shot. I love this photo because of the out-of-focus background and the main focal point being the camera. When I originally took the picture, I wanted to retake it because of how my stomach looked, but I decided I liked how it showed the authenticity of myself.
"Proceed With Caution" / January 2024 / Samsung S21 5G
This is another photo from my "iPhoneography" series and is also from the perspective series. I love how this photo challenged me to really get up close and fill the frame, as well as keeping enough interest in the background so it isn't washed out. I love the contrast of this photo as well with the bright pop of pink in a grey-washed world.
"Under A Mask Of Hate" / March 2024 / Samsung S21 5G
This is one of my pictures from my "Documentary Photo Challenge" series. I took this picture to represent what I feel about America. I chose to take a picture of this style because I have always struggled with my identity as I was growing up, and I also struggled with the media and other people at school harassing, bullying, and assaulting me due to my sexuality and identity. I took this picture to represent being under a mask of hate from the other people in America.
"Feminism Never Dies" / March 2024 / Samsung S21 5G
This is one of my all time favorite pictures, and I took this for the "Documentary Photo Challenge" as well, and this photo is also meant to represent my thoughts and feelings on America. The dead flowers in this photo represents the feelings of AFAB people across America in response to controversial things like Roe V Wade and anti-LGBTQ laws that are being passed. The truth of the matter is, these flowers will never lose their color and will always be beautiful, just like the women and AFAB people.
"Whispers Among Crystal Vines Creeping" / March 2024 / Cannon M50
This is a photo in my Still Life Photography series. This is my very first picture that I've ever taken with a professional camera. I really enjoyed using it, as well as setting up the scene for my beautiful crystals. I also love how I unintentionally created a triadic color scheme using green, purple, and orange.
"Silent Watcher Amidst Tolerance" / March 2024 / Cannon M50
This is another photo in the Still Life Photography series where my crystals continue. I like this picture, because it makes the statue look massive, when in reality it's only one foot tall. I mostly like this picture because of the grainy texture on the statue that was created after editing. I do wish the crystals were more in focus and noticeable.
"Sexy Rosé” / March 2024 / Samsung S21 5G
This is one of my photos from my product photography series. I like this photo a lot because of the lighting I created to create a sexy mood, perfect for the product I'm showcasing. I wanted to play with the lighting because of the glass, and I knew the glass would create an interesting effect.
“Dos Perspectivas (Two Perspectives)” / April 2024 / Samsung S21 5G
This is a picture from my Portrait Photography series. This series was definitely my favorite in the semester. This photo, specifically, was supposed to represent Julia Margaret Cameron's style of photography. I like this photo because of the contrasting green and orange tones, as well as the out of focus film in the foreground giving homage to Julia Margaret Cameron directly. I also love how you can see my reflection in the film, and it gives a whole different perspective to the piece entirely.
“Rosas y Pistolas (Roses and Guns)” / April 2024 / Samsung S21 5G
This is my final, and probably my favorite photo. It is from the Portrait Photography series. Firstly, the model is my partner, Kane, and he is usually not very photogenic, but this project has helped him relax a little around a camera, and the pictures turned out awesome. I love this picture for so many reasons, including the planned out matching outfit to match the guitar, and the warm lighting creating a golden glow effect, and a perfect shadow. When editing, I made sure to crop the photo for highest effect of both Kane and his shadow, as well as bringing up the warmth
and exposure to create the perfect atmosphere.
Thank you for viewing my photography portfolio!
