I took part in a mono-printing workshop. This was my first introduction to any kind of printing. We worked with a sheet of glass in which we applied thick ink onto with a roller. Then, after placing paper on top of it, we used different tools and experimented by drawing different shapes on the back. I used different pens, pencils, plastic cutlery and pressed different objects with holes in them so they left a pattern.
I enjoyed this so much, I found myself experimenting with screen printing. I made up a stencil of the 'Yin Yang' sign just as an example to play around with. I printed the background in blue first, and experimented with powder to create a worn/aged effect. Then with a different colour, I printed the icon on.
I decided to integrate some other skills and materials into this piece, so I added some hand stitches to outline one half of the icon.
Here, I did a screenprint of one of my life drawings. Using different layerings of paints, I created multiple very differently coloured prints. I would later use these prints in my Final Major Project.
This was a puff-printing experiment I did to broaden my knowledge on different techniques.
Using some simple sketching, I took a self portrait and embroidered it. This method of embroidery illustration is something I wanted to try after looking at artists like Eleanor Bowley, Jenny Hart and Sandrine Pelletier.
This is a dart I used to ensure my top fitted me more flatteringly.
These are some sewing and fabric manipulation techniques. I would use these to create the works below and throughout my Final Major Project to create my dress.
These are some textile collages I put together. The main focal points are my embroidered life-drawings. I also used some different techniques to vary the styles and add texture in the collage such as rouching, pleating and stuffing some fabrics.
This was some hand embroidery I used in a project themed around the word "Journey". My interpretation was the journey of forgiveness. I put in a lot of research in colour theory, contextual research into psyche and mentality as well as different hand embroidery techniques. The end result was a pillow with 4 sections to represent the stages of grief and forgiveness.
This was a passion project I undertook to commemorate my friend moving away. I used similar hand embroidery techniques to create this pillow, as well as tie-dying the fabric I stitched on.
