We give a warm welcome to our two good adventure buddies as they roll in the basement suite we’re renting for the winter. Vince and Dom’s visit has one main purpose, and they are deliberately excited about it. It’s their first trip in the big mountains of Western Canada, and they are thirsty for steep lines and deep snow. They can barely control their excitement as they unpack their ski gear and show us all the finetuning that they did preparing for the weeks to come. 

Alexis and I glance at each other, silently asking ourselves how to break the news. It’s mid-January in Golden, BC, and the snowpack is abnormally shallow. As if it wasn’t enough, tomorrow’s weather forecast is calling for some heavy cloud coverage, negating any hope of alpine visibility. 

What shall we do? 
Well, we’ll go skiing… obviously!
