Jung Soo-geun Escapes Arrest for 'Violence of Beer Bottles for Drinkers'
Former baseball player Jung Soo-geun, who is accused of injuring a man who was drinking with a bottle, was put on trial.

Namyangju branch of the Uijeongbu District Prosecutors' Office chief prosecutor Yoo Jung-hyun announced on the 2nd that it has indicted Jung Soo-geun without detention on charges of special injury. He is accused of injuring his acquaintance A, who was drinking with him, by hitting him in the head with a bottle on the afternoon of December 21 last year at an entertainment bar.

Jung Soo-geun had a drinking party with A, an employee of a food company who he met for the first time, at a bar located in Namyangju, Gyeonggi-do. Jung Soo-geun suggested to A, "Let's go for a third round of drinking," but when A refused, he hit A in the head twice with a beer bottle. A is known to have suffered major injuries, such as a torn head due to Jung Soo-geun's assault. Jung Soo-geun is said to have admitted to the charges and also sent a message to A containing an apology.

Apart from this case, Jung Soo-geun was also booked for hitting his wife's forehead with a golf club special assault at 5 a.m. on the 20th of last month when he was drunk at his home and is under investigation by the prosecution. The police were dispatched after receiving a report from A and arrested Jung Soo-geun at the scene, but Jung Soo-geun reportedly denied the allegations in a police investigation.

Born in 1977, Jung started his professional career after graduating from Deoksu Commercial High School in 1995 and joining the OB Bears currently Doosan. He helped the OB Bears win the Korean Series by stealing 25 bases from his debut season. Jung emerged as a star player in the 1998 season by winning the title of stolen base king of the KBO League with 44 steals.

In the 1999 season, he had a batting average of 0.325, 164 hits, two homers, 55 RBIs and 57 steals, winning the Golden Glove in the outfield category, and in 2000, he had 47 steals for the third consecutive year. A professional player was selected to the national baseball team of the 2000 Sydney Olympics, where he participated for the first time, and contributed to winning the bronze medal.

In the 2001 season, he stood out as a center fielder representing the KBO League by winning the Korean Series and the Golden Glove in the outfield category for the fourth consecutive year with a batting average of 0.306, 143 hits, two home runs, 53 RBIs and 52 steals. After the end of the 2002 season, he exercised his right to acquire his first free agent free contract qualification and signed a six-year contract with Lotte Giants for a total of 4.06 billion won and moved his nest.

However, since his transfer to the Lotte Giants, Chung has been on a downward spiral due to failure in self-management. He caused controversy due to frequent disputes over drinking alcohol, and his performance also declined. His batting average of 0.286 with 106 hits, 29 RBIs and 21 steals in the 2005 season were his career highs when he was playing for the Lotte Giants.

In the 2008 season, he was recovering his skills during his prime with a batting average of 0.291 with 90 hits, 25 RBIs and 24 stolen bases in 80 games, but was caught up in a drunken assault and humiliated himself by being prosecuted without physical detention. Lotte was continuing its tough fight to advance to the semi-finals when Chung Soo-geun was assaulted under the influence of alcohol. Due to the departure of the captain, the team had difficulties not only hitting its power but also dampening the mood of the team.

Jung Soo-geun returned to the 2009 season after a year of self-reflection, but he eventually took off his uniform and retired in disgrace as the issue of drunken assault arose again. Starting with 25 steals in 1995 during his debut season, the player's exit was so futile that he left behind a batting average of 0.280 and 1493 hits, 24 home runs, 450 RBIs, 866 runs and 474 steals in 14 consecutive years until 2008.

Even after his retirement, Chung had constant problems related to alcohol. He was booked for drunk driving several times and was fined or suspended from prison. In 021, the police caught him driving for about 3 kilometers with a blood alcohol content of 0.159 percent, which is equivalent to cancellation of his driver's license.

In 2022, he was sentenced to one year in prison for drunk driving. The court said, "Even considering the fact that the accused has dependents such as young children, he/she has drunk driving several times and needs corresponding punishment for driving while intoxicated again."  메이저 토토사이트
