New Story Office Mural

Process
This large mural project was a collaboration between myself and Mira Carroll, both designers at New Story in 2022. We sketched concepts separately for the mural, incorporating different aspects of New Story's work in the details of each concept.

Eventually these two concepts rose to the top as favorites. As soon as we tried overlaying the two, we knew they needed to be combined.
"Doing this mural felt like putting my heart on the wall. @newstorycharity has been my work home for 4 years, and we’ve dreamed of a mural for at least half of that. We wanted something that communicated the hope of home, the pursuit of a higher goal, and the journey New Story is taking to make homelessness a thing of the past. Finally we just decided to do it ourselves — and it was such a joy to collaborate with the incredibly talented @mira_alexandra_creative on this gift to our beloved team!!

Using the New Story color pallet as a jumping off point, we created a symbol for the vibrancy and aspirations embodied in the families we serve. We believe home is at the center of life-change — and safe shelter unlocks growth and dreams. The agave plant represents the health and happiness families experience when they have a secure foundation. The lines represent upward mobility a stable roof provides for vulnerable families. And the sun celebrates the new life families experience when they move out of homelessness.”
