Between past and present (Milos - Greece)

MILOS
GREECE
In the enchanting landscape of the Ancient City of Milos, near the quaint village of Trypiti and the renowned Catacombs of Milos, stands the Ancient Theater of Milos. Initially constructed during the Hellenistic Period in the 3rd century BC, the theater was later rebuilt by the Romans.

Built with pristine white marble, the Ancient Theater Milos faces southwards, offering breathtaking views of Milos Bay and the Aegean Sea. With its stage, orchestra, and multiple tiers, this theater once hosted approximately 5,000 spectators.
The catacombs are built and considered the largest in Greece and the most remarkable in the world.

In 1207, like all the Cyclades islands, it was taken by the Venetians until 1580 when the Turks took Milos and the Aegean islands in general. During this period, Milos became a den of pirates, who used the famous caves. Milos was among the Cyclades islands that contributed greatly to the Greek Revolution. In 1832, it was attached to Greece.
