How can artificial intelligence help people achieve their skin health goals?
Tanline helps users optimize their tanning.
Young adults are happier when they’re more confident, more confident when they’re more attractive, and more attractive when they’re tan.  Fitting in time for suntanning, like time for working out, is possible while balancing heavy time commitments.  However, tanning is all about the timing, and people who already have low bandwidths aren’t going to go through the effort of planning their suntanning without an impulse from our disruptive platform that will make it trivially easy.
Tanline works to reduce the time burden on individuals who care about their skin health. Using AI scheduling software, Tanline users can create their custom tanning schedule for the week in as little as five minutes.
Here’s an introduction to what we did:
Our team's goals were to create a minimum viable product and run user tests meant to reveal the features that users wanted most from Tanline. Our project culminated in a landing site that featured a sign up list for users interested in the full product release.
Personas and Problem Scenarios
Our user tests focused was on  undergraduate students and young professionals living in areas that get at least some sun year round.  These subjects seem to be most aligned with our target customer base due to their tendencies for proactive healthcare and congested schedules.
We refined our findings into testable trios of Scenarios, Alternatives, and Value Propositions

Early on in the project, we explored Tanline as platform that provided not only tanning scheduling services, but also UV index notifications for users who might want to minimize sun exposure.
What to build and how?
Software Design & Prototyping
Our team wanted to keep the user interface as simple as possible. We designed the UI to reflect many of the popular scheduling interfaces such as iPhone and Android calendars. We built an interactive wireframe UI using Balsamiq, and ran several user experiments that tested the user friendliness of the setup.
Our team also built and launched a website serving as a landing site for potential users. The website described the Tanline services and included an email sign-up list that allows us to generate a database of potential users (https://tanline.godaddysites.com).
We Anchored Our Work In User Stories Like These:
EPIC
As a college student, tanning is not one of my priorities even though being tan is.
I want to know when I can suntan effectively and be reminded to plan around it so I can get tan without having to constantly check the weather and my commitments.

CHILD STORIES
As a busy tanner, Paris wants to see today’s tanning forecast immediately when she opens the app.
As a busy tanner, Paris wants to know where she can optimize tanning when she has a weekend away.
As a busy tanner, Paris wants to be able to upload and edit her commitment schedule so her tanning plan can be up-to-date and achievable.
