Space Impression Tile

Space Impression Tile
For this project I used modeling clay to form a tile measuring 1 foot by 1 foot by 1 inch thickness. After forming the square, I used a variety of tools to make indents, marks, and protruding details in the clay. Once this was completed, I then built tin foil walls all around the tile to hold the plaster. I then poured the plaster and let it stand for 24 hours. After it had set, I removed the clay, which withheld it's form, to reveal a soft gray tile. Using acrylic paint, I added the final touches to the piece.

I loved this project! It was my first time using clay to create a mold and plaster to create a tile. I think it is such a neat idea for creating art, that I will for sure be perusing more of these crafts in the future. Overall, I am pleased with how the final product turned out. Although if I were to redo it, I would take the time to make sure the impressions in the clay weren't too small (as suggested in the lesson) in order to prevent chunks from breaking off. However, I think with those factors in mind, I still managed to create a stunning image!
