Data Visualization of Endangered Species in the South Asian Region
Brief

The objective was to visually represent the data in a way that not only conveys information but also creates a compelling infographic that tells a story.
Ideation

I wanted to explore various ideas, but I was certain that I wanted to present a dataset related to nature. Initially, my plan was to showcase the correlation between the number of endangered species and the escalating rates of deforestation or pollution in the region. However, after a thorough brainstorming session and weighing the pros and cons of the topic, I opted to focus on endangered species in the South Asian region, specifically highlighting five categories of vertebrates.
Brainstorming

I aimed to employ a choropleth map to indicate the region's location and enhance visual informativeness. However, this decision brought forth numerous challenges. Each region varies in size, making it a bit tricky to manage the overall map size. Drawing inspiration from Manuel Bortoletti and Federica Fragapane, I resolved to utilize a combination of choropleth, bubble, and bar graphs to present precise data.
Color selection was inspired by the species of animals that were most prominent among the endangered species, and which allows users to differentiate more effectively.
Iterations
Final Outcome

After engaging in several interactions and receiving suggestions from my mentor, I decided to stick with the bubble and choropleth map to make the data less cluttered and more effective.
