Twelve Bees
Conceptualise and create an engaging, visually appropriate corporate identity programme for a uniquely South African high-end product range selected from the commodity list supplied to you. Your product brand's range should consist of three related variants and needs to be inspired by uniquely local ingredients, flavours, materials or cultural origins. The brand's narrative should be positioned for both South African and international consumers. The region of origin needs to be clearly evident in your final solution without being stereotypical. The history of the product can be interpreted, made contemporary or referred to in a novel way, but should form an integral part of the design development.

"Grace in the gold"

The identity of Twelve Bees comes from the combination of golden liquids, honey and whiskey. The brand expresses this combination through the use of deep colours like orange and burgundy. Twelve Bees is a celebration of the craft that goes into making both whiskey and honey. It takes 12 bees to create a teaspoon of honey, that single spoon is just the right amount to create the perfect infusion with the whiskey. 

Twelve Bees is a standout, not only for its flavour but its market as well. The brand is aligned with the taste of a more feminine audience, opening the whiskey market to more women.
Brand story
Twelve Bees hails from the idyllic hills of Hazyview, Mpumalanga. Khaya shared his passion for beekeeping with his beloved daughter, Akani. Passing on a legacy of knowledge that had been in the family for generations. Khaya taught her to respect the bees. He would harvest a single teaspoon of honey from the hive, and mix it with his best whiskey to savour slowly at the end of his long working day. This was his way of saying thanks to the bees, acknowledging their hard work and dedication. “It takes twelve bees to make a teaspoon of honey”, Khaya would tell Akani. They strove to craft liquid gold. As they sat together, they knew this was a special moment. Something that connected them to Mother Earth and to each other in a way that is both humbling and inspiring.
Brand Mission
At Twelve Bees, we believe in the daringness to do something new. We offer three unique flavours of honey-infused whiskey. Delve deep into the dark flavour of our Macadamia Whiskey. Zest up your evening with the Orange blossom Whiskey or spice it up with the Ginger Honey blend. Alone or together, Twelve Bees is the perfect way to relish in the sweet gold.

The colours chosen for Twelve Bees are reminiscent of the whiskey, honey and the different blossoms.
Each flavour in the range has a unique logomark. Each blossom from which the bees collect the pollen is represented.
