Une famille d’une dizaine d’individu de grand dauphins commun on trouvé un logement ici presque toute l’année. Ce sont d’impressionnant mammifères, dont les plus grands adultes peuvent mesurer 3,3 mètres et peser environ 450kg. Grisâtres, le corps trapus se terminant par un bec épais, tels est sont les caractéristique pour les reconnaitre. Une bouche plutôt particulière leur confère un aspect « souriant » du à la ligne de bouche incurvée vers le haut. Sur chacun de nos 4 passages, ils étaient présents.
En utilisant la poussée de notre navire, leur démonstration technique de voltige est encore mieux qu’un parc aquatique. Dans leur milieu naturel ils zig-zagent, nous cherchent du regard et nous sommes tous enfantins face à ce spectacle.
Par chance ce matin, dans la passe de Tiputa la marée est à l’étale, ce qui donne à l’eau ce calme et cette transparence saisissante. Cet apaisement se retrouve sur les photos qui nous montrent les trait caractéristique de leurs peaux et leurs échanges de regard. Le soleil qui frôle l’horizon donne un coup d’éclat au dauphin qui vient chercher les cieux.

A family of about ten individuals dolphins bottlenose has found their home here for almost the entire year. These are impressive mammals, with the largest adults measuring up to 3.3 meters and weighing approximately 450 kg. They have a greyish color, robust bodies that taper into a thick beak, which are key characteristics for identification. What sets them apart is a rather unique mouth shape that gives them a "smiling" appearance due to the curved upward mouth line. They were present on each of our four visits.
Using the push from our vessel, their acrobatic displays are even more thrilling than a water park. In their natural environment, they zigzag, lock eyes with us, and we all become childlike in the face of this spectacle.
Fortunately, this morning, in the Tiputa pass, the tide is at its calmest, giving the water an extraordinary sense of serenity and clarity. This tranquility is beautifully captured those pictures which showcase the distinctive features of their skin and the meaningful exchanges of gazes. The sun, as it grazes the horizon, casts a radiant glow on the dolphin, reaching for the skies.
