Bauhaus meets Chinese
Graphic design is not just drawing a circle on the paper. It is different cultures, colours and even mathematics to constitute a meaningful visual impact.

Bauhaus is a great art from 20th century. In 1919, Bauhaus was founded by Walter Gropius in Germany. The Bauhaus holds a place of its own in the culture and visual art history of the 20th century combining architecture, sculpture, and painting into a single creative expression.

In addition, the idea of Bauhaus creators have influence architecture, furniture, typography and even weaving. The Bauhaus movement continues to influence us today, where any modern environment often incorporates elements of the period. Furthermore, there are two famous Bauhaus artists, Johannes Itten and Herbert Bayer. They have inspired me in Colour Theory and Graphic Arts.

Johanne Itten devised seven methodologies for coordinating color utilizing the hue’s contrasting properties. The art works and design from Johannes Itten show contrast. His works inspire me on how colours could be creative and fun. Herbert Bayer is a painter, graphic designer, architect and landscape designer, and he taught by Johanne Itten in the pre-course. Some of Herbert Bayer’s art works are composed of lines, objects and typography into a coordinate image. This impresses me that simple lines, objects and typographic could create and design a perfect and balance graphic. However, for my poster design, it will combine Chinese culture with Bauhaus. The idea is using Colour Theory and Graphic Art works from Johannes Itten and Herbert Bayer to combine traditional Chinese culture into a poster.
