SUPERPIXEL​​​​​​​

We were tasked by Kaplan in creating an animation to facilitate enrolment of potential students in based in Korea. 

The message: 

Watch our protaganists; the Commander (ENTJ), Blacksmith (ISTP), and Wizard (INFJ), level up their skills with the help of KAPLAN's Higher Education!

As Art Director leading a team of four artists for this project, I was in charge of the following responsibilities:

- Conceptualizing the narrative

- Moodboarding

- Storyboarding

- Overseeing the entire production

- Preparing decks of every progress update and present it to the client

Since the characters are to be in a medieval, fantasy style, with the idea of them levelling up their skills, I immediately thought, video games. And then, naturally; Voxel art. It was the perfect marriage between pixel art and 3D.

The client approved of this proposal, and we immediately dived into production.

To meet the deadline, the team and I worked concurrently, with myself storyboarding, assigning two artists to work on designing and modelling the characters, while the other two focused on modelling the environments.

As shown below, this was the finalized storyboard, with work-in-progress polishing of shots already underway seen at the end of it.

We used Magicavoxel to design our characters, rigging them in C4D.

After the final storyboard was approved by the client, the team and I worked together in finalizing the rest of the styleframes. 

I instructed them to closely follow the composition of the scenes I have drawn out in the storyboard, and because they did so, it helped reduced the amount of feedback sessions I had with them.
