TURTLE DRONE | drone for kids

Turtle Drone

The "Design a drone for kids" contest organized by leManoosh challenged hundreds of designers around the world and awarded the "Turtle Drone" third place. But what is the "Turtle Drone?" It is a modular and customizable drone for children, controllable through gestures recognized by a smart bracelet, which aims to increase hand-eye coordination.
Concept

This product is specifically aimed at what is known as Generation Alpha, referring to the generation born after 2010. This generation has been influenced, for better or worse, by various factors, such as technological advancements, video games, and social media, which have led them to spend a significant amount of time in front of screens. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced their association of home and family as the primary aspects of their lives. And finally, they have become more sensitive than previous generations to issues like rising temperatures and environmental pollution.
Why?

A study by the World Health Organisation found that 80 per cent of children are not physically active enough. The desire to play sports and spend time outdoors has been replaced by video games and smartphones. Drones have therefore become the best alternative for outdoor activities, as they require a considerable amount of attention when navigating from one destination to another and can help develop spatial perception.

How?

The modular design facilitates the design process from start to finish, guaranteeing optimum results and optimisation of production. It allows the reduction of material waste, (allowing the replacement of individual breaks instead of discarding the entire product) and customisation and active participation in the making of  the product (thus increasing satisfaction and building a direct and strong bond with the product).
Details

The fans are inside to prevent children from being injured by the rotating blades, thus increasing safety. The on/off button together with the status LED have been placed under the drone, ensuring that the charging status is always visible during flight. The perimeter inputs of the object can be used both to expand the capabilities and aesthetics of the drone and to facilitate charging.
