I saw this at the end of a hike and thought that it was a plastic kids toy at first. I moved over to get a closer look and realized that it was coming from a stem in the ground. "This might actually be a plant," I considered. It looked pretty creepy I remember thinking. I then did research and found out that it is also called doll's-eyes and that it is very poisonous if ingested. This was the only plant of its kind in the forest at Settler's Cabin Park. It also looks kind of like candy a little bit.
I have been trying to get out and about this summer, even though I am plagued with strange health issues that don't seem to let up. My trip to Hillman State Park was o.k., but Settler's Cabin Park is a beautiful place with much more to see on the trails. The butterflies and insects this time of year are fascinating to watch. I encountered so many insects on this trip that it was difficult to capture all of them. The butterflies were the most challenging subject because of the unpredictable nature of these insects. I came away with more knowledge than I had prior to going. Hope that you enjoyed,
