The figure of the smartphone has been thought as a social and interactive tool which allows people to be more “social”. Although, while this tool makes people more digitally sociable, on the other hand it makes them less sociable with the real people and less aware of the real world, especially during the meal.
Conceptually, it’s like if the smartphone becomes a sort of parasite which infects the tableware environment. All the pottery and all the usual tools which we use during the meal are infected by that, turning into objects almost impossible to use.
Based on this metaphor, i created a set of pottery, composed of a flat plate, a deep plate and a cup which are connected to the smartphone or, more properly, infected by the parasite-smartphone becoming non-functional objects, uncomfortable to use.
The project has been exhibited at “Spazio Rossana Orlandi” during Salone del mobile di Milano 2014.
