25 Years of Fallout

25 YEARS OF FALLOUT
2022 marked 25 years of the video game Fallout. What started as an isometric, turn based RPG has become one of the best selling western RPG franchises in the world. Set in an alternative history of earth where atomic power prevailed. the world of Fallout has an incredibly striking aesthetic. Drawing influences from 1950s America, retro futurism and Mad Max. The post apocalypse has never looked so good.

Being able to create products in a universe I have spent hundreds of hours in is an incredible honour. Bringing the game into reality for fans like me is an incredible feeling.

25th anniversary commemorative ingot
This ingot is based on the games original release cover to commemorate the games original release.

The box design is inspired by an in game item called a Pipboy, which is a personal device that is worn around the players wrist. The Pipboy has evolved over the last 25 years and I wanted to incorporate as much of that into the design as possible. The buttons, wires, dials and Logos are all taken from a different iteration of the Pipboy. I really want the fans to enjoy every aspect of the product. I like to try and make the packaging a part of the product and not just something the item arrives in.

A couple of geeky easter eggs. The date in the top of the box is the release date of the game. The lightbulb on the side is from the opening of the Fallout 3 reveal trailer. and the Vault boy design on the front of the box is the in universe original design.

CEASAR's Favour Box Set
The Caesar's Legion is a faction feared in the wasteland. Basing their society around Rome and its army they are an incredible force to be reckoned with. The items inside are accurate replicas of in game items. The large central pin is a representation of the spear of Mars and is worn by the factions leader Caesar. Their currency is crested with a young and old Caesar. The final item is a necklace given to the player character that shows the eyes of the mighty Caesar are upon them and he admires their accomplishments.

The packaging design was inspired by the thought of how would a more tribal faction in the wasteland present these items to someone. I used an old green toolbox I had and took extensive photography to manipulate the textures to look like an old ammo tin. I did some extra research to find out what caliber of Grenade rifle ammo the faction use and have the same information on the sides. I then used an old paintbrush and roughly painted the faction logos and colours across the top to make it feel as human as possible. The inside lid of the box is the factions symbol and the words every legionary in the faction will utter with their dying breath. "True To Caesar"

LUCKY 38 metal casino set
Based on a casino of the same name from Fallout New Vegas. This set includes a metal replica of the ace of spade. Metal replica of a casino chip and pin badge of the logo. The packaging was inspired the décor of the casino and the back of the playing card.

The other playing cards used in the imagery are also a Fanattik product. I like to do this for several reasons. It's great for us to advertise our other products in photography shots as it helps build a brand. Using playing cards and poker chips in these shots specifically help give the customer a sense of scale for the product. So they know exactly how big an item they are receiving is without having to be specifically told.

Sunset Sarsaparilla Set
Sunset Sarsaparilla is a fictional drink company inspired by the old west. The Deputy Badge and Necklace are replicas that all link to a quest in the game Fallout New Vegas. Where the protagonist has to collect glow in the dark star bottle caps. There is a character that wears one of these in game and it seemed like perfect opportunity to replicate such an item.

The playing card is a original design by me. Using an animatronic mascot of the brand as the centre piece. Featuring his "signature" and the back of the card has some recreations to in game icons to help it feel authentic to the brand.

The packaging was inspired by vintage Tobacco tins. Created from scratch using photoshop and metal textures. The "stickers" on the box are other pieces of in world art to advertise the brand. Removing the lid will reveal a nod to an in game character that also collects Star Bottle Caps.
The Unstoppables! Are an in universe comic crime fighting team of superheroes. This set is inspired by vintage marvel marching society and other comic fan clubs. Containing an incredible amount different products this was an incredible undertaking. Some items were made in China. Others were printed in the U.K. and then all needed to be collated into one box by hand. Some of the items that make up this set are comic cover art prints, pin badge, pennant, membership card, letters from heroes, sticker, a coin, fake advertisements, tickets to in universe events and more!

An incredible amount of research went into this product. Diving to the history of vintage comic fan clubs and seeing letters written to fans from the perspective of the superheroes was really fun to me so I created the same for a hero called Manta Man. Most of these clubs had membership cards that included decipher codes on the back so you could send secret messages to other fan members. Keeping it as authentic to the history of these style of items was exciting while putting the Fallout twist into it all.
