This piece depicts a Sonoran Tiger Salamander. They are a species native to the San Rafael Valley in Southern Arizona and Northern Mexico. They were added to the endangered species list in 1997. They are threatened due to habitat loss, disease, and introduction of non-natives. I chose to draw the salamander in this transparent manner to represent the fragile nature of their existence. The map used was chosen since it shows their representative range. I have drawn in their range fading the color as the range crosses into Mexico since their exact range across the border is not known.
