PERMIAS (Persatuan Mahasiswa Indonesia di Amerika Serikat or the Association of the Indonesian Students in the United States) Congress 2013 is a Congress that aims to unite Indonesian university students across the U.S. through regional chapters and nationally.

 

This National Congress was held on May 25-26, 2013 in Washington D.C., also marks a special importance in PERMIAS’ history, as it is the first congress after 12 years of hiatus.

 

The committe of this Congress unanimously voted for the "Blooming Youth" concept. This concept was chosen because there are many overlappig meaning behind it. The petals represents the diverse students in United States that gathered (petals meet in one point) to plan a better future for Indonesia. Kawung the pattern that is embedded within the petals is a very known batik (Indonesia's known cultural heritage) pattern. This spesific pattern has meanings: "hope that human will remember their roots" and "wise leader who brings good to their community"
