A Student Brief Collaboration with ISSEY MIYAKE

Line of enquiry:
Make a line of material conscious sample swatches, to fit within the culture of the ISSEY MIYAKE brand, while also bringing something new to the brand’s line up.

Response:
Fuzzy Geometry is a collection of experimental, wool felt garment swatches designed for luxury fashion brand and conglomerate ISSEY MIYAKE INC. The Fuzzy Geometry collection honours the brand’s long history and reputation for innovative techniques of making clothing and accessories, while also introducing a new material, 100% wool felt, to the existing lineup.

Fuzzy Geometry was first inspired by the ethic and creativity of the existing collection A-POC (A Piece of Cloth) ABLE, within the ISSEY MIYAKE brand. A-POC ABLE realises the concept of engagement with the wearer that is possible in a single piece of cloth.

Following the philosophy of A-POC ABLE, Fuzzy Geometry is a celebration of the opportunities and limitations of mono-material surface design using laser cut perforations, folds and pleats. The Fuzzy Geometry collection is an investigation into rhythm and movement, expressed by the body, and the maker’s hand. The collection is an embodiment of both the motion of transforming loose wool fibre in to felt by hand, and the experiential interaction with the wearer.
