An Interactive Display for Creative Youth

An Interactive Display for Creative Youth

Brief: To reimagine Kingston-Upon-Thames’ heritage in bold and dynamic ways to engage
audiences. Focusing on an existing dossier of maps, diagrams and drawings, reinterpret
this information in innovative ways. This can be either physical or digital, but must focus
on audience engagement and accessibility.

Summary: I joined up with three other design students to create an interactive display for
the entrance of FUSEBOX, a multi-functional space owned by Creative Youth, a youth arts
charity in Kingston. This is its temporary placement inside the FUSEBOX space.
The illustrations were drawn by children from Ham Youth Club, who were aged 12-16. Their drawings were in response to prompts relating to how they visualise Kingston’s
identity as well as their own. The icons can be reinterpreted however the public wishes,
which is why we chose an abstract style.

By including them in the designing of the initiative, we created a display that was for
the community, by the community.
