aLLot: Speculative Housing Re-Adjustment UX System and Plans
This speculative design project focuses on the research question “what if housing was treated as a human right,” and considers what a new world would look like if free housing was implemented in Melbourne/Naarm in the 2100s. Working in the hybrid space between urban planning and social justice, I attempted to have a part in re-imagining and re-configuring the future, and create objects that manifest rationality, and narrative, as salient concepts in the operation of critical practices in design. These included the design of a UX system and urban planning activations including freehand architectural plans and an interactive community mind-map. The website serves as a platform for the community council initiative aLLot, managing house allocation and readjustment in this envisioned future society, which the community can share their thoughts upon within the Federation Square installation. The redesign of the financial infrastructure speaks to the changed role of the economy in this new social configuration.
