This thesis project is the result of a personal interest and a desire to make a concrete contribution in the fight against gender-based violence. In my three years of university studies, I have gained several realizations as a young woman and as a designer. One among them is that history influences design but that design can also influence the course of history.

The main purpose of the research phase was to better understand the current state of the phenomenon. To do so, it was essential to delve into the history and developments of gender-based violence. From its origins to the present day, an overview of the events, actors and places of its manifestation.




After several evaluations and a thorough analysis of the context, actors and related needs, the final concept was defined. The idea is developed following three project paths (Action, Prevention and Awareness) and their respective outputs.




The two applications, Olimpia Action and Olimpia Prevention, were designed trying to create a simple and immediately understandable layout for an efficient user experience.

The first one connects users with associations and anti-violence centers, giving the possibility to maintain anonymity, it is possible to get information and communicate with the operators to have more awareness and prevent dangerous situations. The second one aims at the safety of women in the city, through tracking it is possible to share one's location with the chosen contacts, send an alert in case of unpleasant situations and enter reports on the safest routes.




The last part of which the project is composed aims to raise awareness regarding the issue of gender-based violence. Various contents were designed for the campaign in order to inform and bring the community closer to the issue.
