The Cavs’ 2016 Championship Run

Judge Amy Corrigall Jones sits on the bench of the Summit County Court of Common Pleas in Akron. Ohio. She holds the position of Administrative Judge of the Common Pleas Court, General Division. A resident of Ohio, Judge Amy Corrigall Jones is a huge fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers, a professional basketball team that competes in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

The Cavs joined the NBA in 1970. In 53 years, the Cavs appeared in the Finals five times. In 2016, the Cavs ended the long title drought after defeating the Golden State Warriors in seven games. The Cavs were the underdogs in the 2016 Finals for a few reasons: the Warriors won 73 of 82 regular season games and were the defending champions after defeating the Cavs in the previous season.

At home, the Warriors took care of the first two games for a 2-0 start. The Cavs won Game 3 in Cleveland to gain momentum going to Game 4. However, the Warriors were better offensively in Game 4, defeating the Cavs for a 3-1 lead.

In a turn of events, the Warriors' Draymond Green has assessed a flagrant foul in Game 4, his fourth in the playoffs, and was penalized with a one-game suspension. Without Green in Game 5, James and Kyrie Irving took care of the game and forced a Game 6 back in Cleveland.

Green was back in the Warriors' lineup for Game 6. However, starting center Andrew Bogut was diagnosed with a knee injury and will be out for the rest of the Finals. Despite the absence of Bogut, the Warriors won Game 6.

Game 7 was filled with excitement and thrill as both teams fought hard. With less than a minute left in the game, the Cavs were ahead by two points. Stephen Curry had a chance to win the series with a three-point attempt, but he missed. The Cavs won the series in Game 7. LeBron James won the Finals MVP award for his superb performance in the series.
