The objective of this project was to design two contemporary posters; one modern, one postmodern. The main focus on the modern poster was to show hierarchy clearly where the viewer should be able to easily understand the calendar of events and the main speakers while also be designed with interesting typography visuals. The postmodern design is based on the first poster but drastically breaks the grid in an aesthetic way while still using the same contents.
The three designs shown below are the first drafts of my modern poster. When going through my first critique, I've realized that my posters lacked color, interesting title treatments, and too many useless decorative shapes. I reworked my designs and focused them down to two.
After the first critique, I've came up with these two posters where I added some color, used different angles of text to create more interesting title treatments as well as differentiating styles for the speaker information, times of events, and calendar dates.
These are my final designs for the project. I chose the left design as my modern poster because I believed it was the most eye catching and just simple enough to be a great design and legible to read. I designed the postmodern poster based on the left design but doing so with a broken grid. I enjoyed designing the postmodern one more because of the idea of having an organized mess.
