Introduction:
For this project, we chose a talk from the most recent General Conference that we wanted to share with someone we care about. With this talk, we designed a multi-page booklet as a gift. This project is focused on typographic hierarchy, and to create a visually pleasing design that invites a reader to invest time in the document. The most important goal is to create something worth giving.
Design Decisions:
My chosen target audience has influenced all of my design decisions. It has especially influenced the color, and styles of my design. The color scheme was very important to me, as I wanted it to reflect the design principles of unity, and harmony, as well as the themes of this talk which are family, marriage, equality, and love.

I have planned to use negative space in my gift booklet by creating space on the sides of the text. When creating my grid, I made a 3 column grid and then made my text span the space of two columns, so there is a remaining column that creates negative space.
Front Cover/Title Design:
The most successful part of my gift booklet is the design used for the title of the talk and the author. This design can be seen on the front cover of the booklet, as well on page 1. I spent a lot of time designing this so that it is interesting, matches the theme and elements in the booklet, and will influence people to pick up my gift booklet and hopefully read it.
Front and back cover.
Something I have learned from designing the cover for the gift booklet, that can help me in designing covers in the future, is that it needs to reflect the book cover as whole. While I was creating my thumbnails I visualized the cover of a book as if it was a trailer for a movie. The saying, “don’t judge a book by its cover” is nice and all, but totally untrue in my opinion. That’s kind of the point of the cover, to get whoever sees it to want to read it!
