His Yoke Is Easy and His Burden Is Light
His Yoke Is Easy and His Burden Is Light | Gift Booklet Front and Back Covers
For this gift booklet project I have chosen the talk His Yoke Is Easy and His Burden Is Light by Sister J. Anette Dennis, First Counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This topic is an invitation to all people from Jesus Christ to be yoked with him and allow Him to carry our burdens and lighten our loads. Thus my target audience is all of humankind with an emphasis on those who are weighed down with burdens of any kind.
In creating this booklet I wanted to provide the reader with a visually warm, light and calming color scheme and a legible and readable text. Keeping my columns uniform throughout the booklet and limiting the variety of complicated design elements and color blocks as well as using the easy to read font style Avenir Next for the body copy and Stempel Garamond for the title and quotes will aid in presenting a peaceful piece of literature and art. At the conclusion of the booklet I have added a page for reflective notes and a page for the numerous footnotes for easy referencing.
By using the general shape of the oxen yoke as a guide, I have enlarged, overlapped and reduced the opacity of the image and given it a slight gradient in the color scheme of the speaker's outfit and the background surrounding her. I have placed it at a variety of levels on each page to provide a flowing feel. By doing this there will be continual continuity from page to page throughout the booklet.
The front and back cover of two overlapping yoke shapes give the feeling on inclusion.
Inside cover and first page of gift booklet. Shown here are examples of type hierarchy with the title in Stempel Garamond Roman 30pt, followed by Avenir Next Demi Bold 12 pt., and Demi Bold Italic, and lastly, Regular 14pt. The large coral colored drop letter T begins the body copy for the booklet tying in the speakers jacket hue.
Each page has been numbered with Stempel Garamond Bold and the title of the article. Stempel Garamond Bold Italic 32pt. has been used for the block quote.
Stempel Garamond Bold Italic 27pt. has been used for the block quote on page 4. A yoke symbol flourish has been placed at the bottom of the quote.
A page for reflective notes has been provided at the conclusion of the booklet.
Article footnotes are provided for easy reference.
