Frictionless Self-checkout UX

Frictionless Self-checkout
Our client has requested a frictionless checkout UX. While self-checkout systems are not a new concept, many major brands have already adopted them in their stores, and some food establishments have implemented them for streamlined ordering. The objective of frictionless checkout is to create a checkout experience that is effortless and smooth for customers.

The Task
Our client has a production-ready device with a 1024 display and an attached weigh machine that was deployed at an organic store. The store is unique and its founders are enthusiastic about cutting-edge technology. While the self-checkout UI was installed on the device, the overall experience was basic and lacked many of the interactive features and elements that users expect. Customers have been providing negative feedback on the device's non-intuitive UI, prompts, performance, and usability.

Our team has been tasked with enhancing the UX of the device to provide the best possible experience for users. The objective is to improve the device's scalability for future needs.
My Role
I strongly embrace the notion of being a perpetual learner, as it allows me to delve into uncharted territories. This principle applies not only to my work in UX, but to all aspects of my life.

I was entrusted with the responsibility of spearheading the project, which involved collaborating with the client's project team and engaging with the end-users on a weekly basis to gather feedback regarding the device's installation. From the outset, I proactively assumed the entire project planning and execution, from the initial stages until production.
After setting the modular design direction, it has become easy to deploy the solution like a white labelled application for any newly onboarded clients. I have made the system like a feature turn on/off on the platform level which will trigger respective flows based on the customer type.
