Limbo Inspired interactive narrative game

I made a interactive narrative in Gamemaker with the style of the videogame Limbo.
 Research
First I did some research on the story of the Limbo game. Then I played the game to get a feel of the controls and how simple the controls are. I played the game to help with understanding the style of the backgrounds and the characters, when I was playing the game I noticed how much audio was in the content.

To help with the research for the audio I watched a playthrough of the game on Youtube and put in a table a total of 29 sounds I heard. I also watched the playthrough to get a understanding of  how I could create the sounds . The sounds were going to be made out of only paper based products this is to teach me  how to create sounds with limited objects.
Planning
For the planning of the interactive narrative I made a flowchart to get a idea of where the player is going to go after each decision they make.
I then made two storyboards with basic artwork because I didn't want to spend loads of time on the storyboard as the project might of not got done by the deadline.

Development
The first thing I did in the production phase was the framework for the interactive narrative in Gamemaker. I programmed the buttons the player is going to click on to send the player to the next room.
I then worked on all the backgrounds for the animations and rooms. Here is a couple backgrounds I have made.
Background 1
Background2
The reason I chose to put these backgrounds in here is because I made the first one in photoshop using a graphics tablet and I made the second one in illustrator. The problem with this is that the backgrounds are not consistent when it comes to the style I used. Both backgrounds still fit the Limbo style really well but the difference is one uses basic shapes and the other is used with a graphics tablet to get a organic look.

I then made the characters in illustrator the players character, the monster and the stranger.

I also made the lever and the spear in illustrator.
Animation
I  animated the scenes using After Effects. I made the players walk cycle and the monsters walk cycle using the positioning pin and the starch pin. I rotoscoped the monsters attack using my hand and I rotoscoped the players walk cycle.
I put the scenes together by importing the  background and the animations I made for the scene. For the monster fight I imported the background and the monster attack but I animated the players character and the stranger in that after effects file because those animations were not going to be needed more then once.
I made the menu screen  in photoshop by using a black rectangle for the background. To get the effect I used I went on style and used outer glow and I changed the opacity to 67%.
Here is the menu
I then went onto photoshop and made my animations GIFs . I made my Gifs sprites and then objects in Gamemaker. I got rid of forest2 and swamp as swamp was never finished. I created rooms for the GIFs to be put in.

I then added a continue button so the player can watch the animation then move on to the next part of the game.
Sound
I made the sound in a recording studio. The sound was made with only paper based products.
I used Audacity to export my footsteps sound as a wav file. I then used the create event on the animations for forest1 and caveroom1 and added the play sound command to the objects. I made the loop false for the sound.
