Ferrari 550 Maranello Lollipop
This idea came about while watching Jodie Kidd's "Kidd in a Sweet Shop" videos. Wanting to create an illustration based on the channel's universe, I first had to find a car of some importance to both Ms. Kidd and me. This lead me to select the Ferrari 550 Maranello. Jodie previously owned one and has mentioned on record her appreciation for the model. As for me, a black model used to park regularly on my street growing up and has been one of my absolute favorite prancing ponies ever since.
I already knew I wanted to turn a sports car into some form of sweet, and the long swooping curves of the Italian horse lent themselves beautifully to the lollipop format.
The whole illustration was painted in Photoshop. Analysing the shapes of the car in order to figure out the best way to render the translucent nature of hard candy was by far the most fun part of this quick project.
