Indianapolis Zoo - Wayfinding

Wayfinding Project 2010
Wayfinding is described as our dynamic relationship to space and the environment. It allows people to get from one place to another with ease. My goals for the Indianapolis Zoo were creating new signage for the entrances of each park, designing a visually interesting sign display for the main entrance in front of the zoo gates, and a map for kids that was more easily recognizable with colors and shapes so that they can be more involved with finding their way around the zoo.  I also designed rubber stamps that can be placed on the kid's map.
Kid's map: The Zoo Keeper Quest
The first inside pages were some animal facts and images for kids to look at. The middle of the booklet was a simplified map where children receive stamps for answering clues at each of the parks.
At the end, there is a statement of kids completing the quest and they get to sign their name to make it official.  They also can get their picture taken and inserted to complete their passport to take home as a souvenir.
I designed and customized rubber stamps that coordinate with each park.  I also designed large accordion display signs that would be positioned at the entrance of the zoo as well as inside at different pathways.
