Mrs Eaves - A Tale of Love
The brief for this project was to design and create a type specimen to display a typeface of my choosing. As you can see, my chosen font was Zusana Licko's Mrs Eaves - It has many variants, but is a genuinely beautiful typeface. I love its elegance and the ligatures provide the font with extra charm.
 
The story behind the typeface is one of a love story. The tale follows the transition of Mrs Eaves becoming John Baskerville's maid, then mistress, and eventually wife. The utilisation of red and black reflects the contrast between Eaves' professional and romantic relationship with Baskerville - Red represents her lust, love and passion whilst black portrays her uniform and employment status. Coated in a red cotton material, the book pays true homage to the true love story behind Mrs Eaves.
 
The book is (almost) square - 12″ x 11″ - allowing for the font's lightness and wideness to be complimented.
The binding technique used was saddle stitching.
