Abstract Cells
In this small project, I experimented with working expressively and abstractly, taking inspiration from pictures of cells and experimenting with inks and printmaking processes.
An A1 painting on cardboard with acrylic paint. This is a large scale version of one of the studies I made. I researched abstract artists like Albert Irvin and John Hoyland and experimented with texture and opacity by diluting paint, splattering, rubbing off paint and layering. I loved working large scale like this as it gave me the freedom to work freely using less controlled brush strokes.
I created these experimental studies inspired by cells using ink as a background and layering monoprint over the top. I then used the prints to make these collages. I really like the vibrance of the colours in these experiments and the expressive marks that were transferred in the prints
