For my Senior Portfolio Development class at Marist College the assignment was to create a classification collection so I chose to focus on jackets and blazers. The concept of my collection Everlasting Sigh takes old photographs and makes them modern through bright colored embroidery and CLO 3D software technology. This collection is genderless and uses real antique photographs for all of its print designs.
The mood board for Everlasting Sigh is composed of old photographs and postcards that I acquired from an antique warehouse near my college. I added modern captions and colorful embroidery to bring life to the photographs.
The color story and fabrication story of the collection. The contrasting of the brightly colored embroidery floss with the neutral tones of the antique photographs helps to add a feeling of vibrancy and life to the collection. The fabrications consist of various types of overstock cotton and polyester.
Looks #1 and #2 were inspired by a photograph of a child on a nature path with embroidered flowers and ivy that I did by hand. The prints and embroidery from the photograph can be seen on tops and bottoms of both looks. The jackets in these looks are made of lightweight cottons while the tops and bottoms are a cotton/polyester blend.
Looks #3 and #4 were inspired by an old photograph of a funeral home with an eerie caption and a digitally embroidered rose. The jackets in these looks are both made of a waterproof heavy-weight cotton while the tops are made of a cotton/polyester blend and the skirts are made from cotton poplin.
Looks #5 and #6 were inspired by a photograph of a woman that was digitally embroidered with stars. These stars and the photograph were used as prints for the blazer and jacket on both looks and the top of look #6. The jacket and blazer are made up of cotton twill, the t-shirt and pants on look #5 are made of cotton, and the top and bottom of look #6 are cotton/polyester blends.
Looks #7 and #8 were inspired by a photograph of two children in a park square with a digitally embroidered sun and hand embroidered grass. The trench coat dress in look #7 is made of a cotton twill fabric while the blazer in look #8 is made of cotton poplin. The top and bottom of look #8 are made of a cotton/polyester blend.
