Ben G. Thomas 2020-2022

Ben G Thomas is a YouTube channel that focuses on history, paleontology, biology, and technology.
Since 2020 I took on the role of rebranding their site and creating a new logo for them. I've also had ample opportunities to create thematic visual assets for their channel, including intros, graphics, endcards, and designs for merchandise.
I designed the tree logo to encompass the ideas of nature and the diversity of biology on Earth. I wanted each animal to represent a different branch of the animal kingdom.
The intro to 7DOS (7 Days of Science) A weekly video focusing on recent scientific discoveries.
The virtual newsroom for 7DOS. Created completely in Blender 3D.
An Asset preview for different logo screens, and the virtual newsroom and how Doug would appear in context.
There came a point when Doug moved to attend university and wasn't always able to set up his green screen. To accommodate that hiccup in production I took a screencapture of Doug and used it to produce an animated 3D cardboard cutout of him he could easily place in front of the background so he only had to worry about VO work. It was a quick solution but has become cherished by much of the community.
In 2021 Ben and Doug traveled to South Africa to the Karoo desert to dig up Triassic fossils. The expedition was successfully crowdfunded by their community, and for the video series that followed we thought it only appropriate to have a special intro video. Created primarily in Blender 3D and Adobe After Effects.
When I had first designed the logo I had the idea of it appearing as an elaborate rock formation. Ben and Doug's trip to the Karoo turned out to be the perfect time to develop that concept into an exciting animation that led to the videos endcard.
All created in Blender 3D, and stitched together in Adobe After Effects.
