JAPANESE STAB BINDING
This purpose of this was to get a first look at what our final products could look like. For this, I didn't worry about what images meant what, I just focused on how I would appreciate how my images were laid out and how I can act on this for my actual photobook. I watched a short Youtube tutorial on how to put the Japanese stab-binding booklet together. I chose a blue colour of card as I thought it matched the mood of my photos.
Assembling card as well as organising the photos into a specific order actually took me longer than I thought it would. This was good to get me thinking about how I want my final photobook to flow from image to image. I don't want my photobook to feel same-y or gimmicky so this was important for me.
I really like how this turned out. The images sit nicely on the card and flow nicely into one another. In future, some of these images need to be brightened. This was good as it showed me which images should be edited or included at all in a final book. I think the card could've maybe been darker as the images are all quite dark while the cover card colour was more bright. The landscape format of photos work well on this small of a scale as the images don't have too much going on.
FRAGMENTATION
Jiří Kolář
Jiří Kolář was a czech poet who focused more on literary art  but also made a few pieces repurposing famous art pieces such as the Mona Lisa. He cuts together two photos which invokes a new meaning to the image. The way the colour is merged together from photo to photo makes it work as new image. I like this abstract way of creating a new meaning and want to apply it to my own working to see if I like the style and if it would fit my work as a whole
This was very unsuccessful, the ruler I was using wasn't still so I ended up with different sized strips. This makes the image look like a mess and totally misses the mark. This put me off this work but I was willing to try this again with another piece of my work to see if I like it.
I cut the strips a little more accurately this time. However, both images are just too dark to get anything out of them. I didn't engage with this work as much as others. I wasn't really good at this and I also don't have any motivation to engage with this kind of work as it doesn't fit with the rest of my work.
