This assignment was to make a composition inspired by cubism artists. So, I made this composition of a night in a mountain town to create a welcoming and serene feeling for the viewer while still containing the elements of a traditional cubism piece. I was heavily inspired by "Moonshine" by Paul Klee; a 1919 composition of a town at night. To create the feeling I mentioned earlier I used color psychology; a study of how certain colors and hues create certain feelings in the viewer. I selected a color palette of mostly blues and yellows which are said to be calming and happy colors by color psychology. My process began by sketching 4 ideas of cubism inspired composition in which I then selected the composition I would make in Photoshop. In Photoshop, I then recreated my sketch using the pen tool to create organic and varying shapes. After making the sketch, I began to switch to colors, I turned down my sketch layer's opacity and then using the pen tool and a fill of the color I wanted and no stroke, I created the shapes I wanted. After all the color was done, I was able to add texture by going to FreePik to download texture that fit the composition.
