The movie shows how Mapplethorpe was determined to become and make his face known to the world. I could understand why people thought this was a little extreme especially during the time he was taking these photos. I personally think the photos were a bit much considering all a lot of the photos were mostly nude. I think some of his pictures border the lines of pornography could be taking the wrong. The photos that didn’t have any nudity were a lot better. He definitely had talent but the half of his photos that focused on man’s genitalia ruined the other photos he took. Although I didn’t like the photos, I think if people want to see those kinds of images they should be allowed to do so. I was surprised to learn that his art was valued at 38 million dollars, especially because I have never heard of him before. Overall I think art is subjective and everyone should be allowed to take pictures of what they want.
