Medical Journal Magazine Spread

Medical Journal Spread
The goal of this project was to create a magazine spread from an address given during the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' semi-annual General Conference. In my chosen address, Elder Paul V. Johnson recounts how his grandson, Aaron, was diagnosed with aplastic anemia. A disease that prevented his bone marrow from making red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Aaron's healing came through a bone marrow transplant given by his brother. Elder Johnson then speaks about how Aaron, being saved by his brother's blood, made him reflect on the effects of Jesus Christ's atoning blood.

Since Elder Johnson's address focuses on a medical condition and the atoning blood of Jesus Christ, I wanted to create a spread reminiscent of a medical journal. I accomplished this by adhering to a grid layout and by using red blood cell and DNA imagery. I also wanted to incorporate spiritual aspects into the spread. To do this, I included a beautiful depiction of Christ's atonement by Walter Rane, and pull quotes that connected the spiritual to the medical.
