Visual identity
& naming proposal
for the CNSMD

Created in 1980, the Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Danse de Lyon is an institution of higher learning under the supervision of the french Ministry of Culture. A major school of artistic training, the establishment prepares students for careers as musicians and dancers, choir directors, composers, and music and dance teachers.

The name: COMUDA
The name Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon has been abbreviated as much as possible to become a verbal acronym. The acronym COMUDA stands for COnservatoire de MUsique et de DAnse. This name, inspired by MoMa, allows the institution to attract an international audience and increase its notoriety.

The identity: Wavy and modular
The identity of the establishment is based on movement, with elements such as music, dance and the waves of the Saône. The symbolic buildings of music and dance are separated by the Saône. The identity is both sleek to reflect rigor and seriousness, and ultra-modern to represent the students. The logo is modular, which ensures total consistency and inclusiveness in the identity, with as many variations of the logo (for example, for hoodies) as there are actors, such as students, professors and speakers.

Considered too audacious and not reassuring enough for institutions on which the conservatory depends, the proposal was not retained.
