LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS
"June" (left) and "Nostalgia" (right)
These oil paintings were done en plein air in my backyard during the 2020 lockdown. They explore common sights in a new light. With all the time spent at home, I turned to subjects that were both accessible and comforting. "June" was painted during the brief period when bright red roses are growing in the bushes behind my house. I wanted to capture that fleeting beauty. It was a great study in color and texture-- I wanted to paint practically every leaf in this small section of bushes. "Nostalgia" was painted right when the lockdown started and I was feeling terrified and lost. This swing set, now dilapidated and unused for a decade, was a staple of my childhood and a bittersweet reminder of the passage of time. It was representative of the era I was leaving, both my childhood and the pre-pandemic world.
