And long before anyone was paying attention to that state’s primary, the Romney campaign was bombarding the state with mail highlighting Romney’s roots. That groundwork paid off, with Michigan delivering Mitt his biggest victory of the campaign. What especially paid off was that Mitt Romney was a self-described "car guy." In a state with such ties to the auto industry, being a car guy meant a lot.
