OPPORTUNITY
Design a poster in the style of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) for a contemporary cause.
SOLUTION
To pay homage to the call-to-action style of the WPA posters, we were given the opportunity to emulate that era of work by creating a similar-styled poster focused on a contemporary and relevant problem of our choice. I concentrated on the problem of ignorance and how gaining a broader perspective offers a viable solution. One of the ways this expansion of knowledge can be achieved is through travel. I strengthened the poster’s call-to-action quality by tying the campaign to a program the university offers. In resemblance of WPA designs, the poster uses minimal colors and copy to make a strong statement. The ambiguous figure, staring at the TV, misses out on the potential for discovery which is just outside his window. Adventure often awaits outside your comfort zone…so get off the couch!
