My design was mostly influenced by those famous two paintings by Rene.
On the painting, the son of the man, the apple is conveniently located over the man in the bowler cap’s face, denies the viewer a glimpse at his true identity. By this he wanted to denote that there is more than what's visible in front of us. A person never shows his true identity, there is always hidden something underneath. "Humans hide their secrets too well..." I portrayed this saying on my design by manipulating what the viewer is seeing in front of him and what he is seeing inside of the monument.
The second painting, The Lovers, is one of Magritte's most recognizable images, with a couple pictured together with white swaths of cloth covering their faces. The work portrays a sense of melancholy that is often present in love and hard to express. Magritte shows the viewer the sweetness of romance along with the reminder of the ephemeral nature of love itself. Death. It is also said that the original story of his strange fixation on fabric-covered people was that Magritte was the one to find his mother's body when she turned up from the river where her face was wrapped up in the fabric of her skirt. I made fabric as the focal point of my design where it just not only portrays his paintings but also speaks about the life, death and tragedy of Rene.
In most of paintings we can see the sky in the background, i wanted the visitors' to feel like they are walking inside his paintings and thus whenever they will enter the space, the sky will be in focus.
