Strange garden is a 3D platformer puzzle game in that player character San journeys through strangely looking platforms to collect the maximum amount of collectable objects called “Essence” in a given time.

The game was developed by me, Yasemin Yagci, as the project of my thesis Master of Fine Art and Design in Bauhaus University Weimar. The game is still in the development process, so it only contains a single level to demonstrate the study in the thesis.

Environment Concept
I wanted the space to exist somewhere in-between to have an imaginary and fluent atmosphere in the game. So, I needed to create a space where organic and non- organic shapes co-exist in harmony.
Character Concept
First Concept of San
Players perceive Strange Garden's world from a third-person character called San. San has a humanoid shape however, her appearance reminiscent of a mushroom. Nevertheless, San is the only character that has the most human appearance. The rest of the characters have more abstract shapes than her. The critical point for the character designs was to reflect the game's theme. So that minimal and organic environment design was echoed in characters' appearances. San does not have her mushroom crow or human version in in-game version because I removed them of effect on the animation performance.
