Here, the Abject Art explores distortions in the stereotyped human figure to question some themes that are important to me. First, the concepts of beauty and the objectification of the female figure. Second, the taboo on the human body and nudity. And finally, the perfect life on social media, which uses these ideals of beauty and behavior to manipulate a society hungry for approval and acceptance. My proposal in this series of portraits is that “inappropriate” parts of the body are subverted by distortions using a surrealist approach. From these distortions and mutilations, the figures undergo a metamorphosis into puppets, marionettes more suited to a virtual society driven by likes and dislikes. In order to be accepted, we give up our humanity to become something we assume is better than our natural selves, in a life of anxiety and deprivation.
