Cayuga Inlet Bridge

Cayuga Inlet Bridge

The Ithaca Farmer’s Market is a cultural cornerstone to the city of Ithaca. Every weekend during the spring, thousands of people filter through the market to purchase local goods and produce, sample a variety of cuisines, and congregate by the water to enjoy the nice weather that is so rare to this region of New York. Located on the eastern shore of Cayuga Lake’s inlet, the market sits directly across from Cass Park. This family oriented park can only be accessed by either walking or driving around the southern shore of the lake.
This area of the inlet is very active with sailing boats, Ithaca College and Cornell’s crew teams rowing out to practice, and people lining the shores come springtime. Conceiving a structure that allowed for pedestrians to cross from Cass Park to the farmers market and provide a venue to view the crew races that take place within the inlet, while maintaining easy access for boats to successfully sail into the lake were the driving factors that influenced this bridge’s design.
